I've only been very recently looking into the study of meso-American
cultures and their food, with an eye specifically toward looking at
how the Spanish brutalization and "conquest" changed things, to be
honest. My main interest is always a deep and abiding love for food,
and especially information about food nutrition, medicine, and spice.

Right now I've got it in my head to do a little more digging on some
things from meso-American cultures in part because of my laurel.
She tasked me with my year's project, detailed so I won't really
go into it here, but one of the things I have to do will involve for
me getting more information about a person in the Society. To do that
and complete my project, I think I need a little more information
on Aztec and Mayan diets, language, and art (at least the written
form of their pictographic information).

I recently picked up a copy of "The Aztec Herbal" that came out.
I am disappointed in it and working on writing a review of it.
I am hoping there are more sources for information that I can
take advantage of, sources like Jadwiga's kind posting of the
Mayan diet research, to help me along the way. I have a great
interlibrary loan relationship locally to me so I'm hoping to
take advantage of whatever people have looked into. But
without knowing their sources, I can only guess on which books
might be useful. The library is used to me requesting between 10-20
books at one time, so that's not an issue, but that many books
gets unwieldy. I'd like to narrow the field a bit first.

So the long and short of it is yes, I'd like to compare notes,
but mine would only consist of what I did and did not like
about the book on Aztec herbology. I suspect there are many
more people here who would benefit from your bibliography
would you care to share it. I'm especially looking for people
on the list who may have read or read and reviewed other books
on similar topics. I checked Amazon.com and didn't see any
names in the reviews that I read that I recognized.

As a side note, I look specifically at Amazon reviews for people
in the SCA I recognize. I rely heavily on compatriot opinion for
which books I might choose to do research with. I strongly
encourage other members of the SCA to post reviews, even
anonymously, to help out fellow researchers. I try to review
and write about each book I find extremely useful. I'm horribly
behind, but I'll continue because I know other people have
commented that they found the info useful.

PS: Yes, the invite sounds nice. Won't guarantee that I can make
it, but if food's involved, my husband will likely ensure that I
make it no matter what. His mottos for his device:

"Food! My favorite!" and "That's okay, more for me!"
