[Sca-cooks] And speaking of caffeinated sodas...

There I am, in one of New York's many Cuban Chinese restaurants, by dint
of child announcing he is _staaaaaaaarving_ and how terribly abusive
myself and spouse are...

...when what to my wondering eyes should appear but another in a long
series of peculiar sodas that are probably eminently familar to Latin
Americans. I mean, Inca Cola Champagne which tastes exactly like Juicy
Fruit Gum but not like any known fruit of this planet, Apple Soda, etc.

This one was... drumroll please and doffing of hats for the Drink of
Champeens...

MATERVA brand Yerba Mate Soda...

Made from 100% Genyoowine Carbonated Water, Sugar, Corn Sweetener,
Tartaric Acid, Extract of Mate, Caramel Coloring, Other Artificial
Flavors, Caffeine, Preserved with Sodium Benzoate...

Note, please, that I have high hopes for the extract of Mate contained
therein to be nearly 100% caffeine, or, if you're of the particular
chemists' camp that says that mateine is not caffeine, but perhaps some
kind of isomer of same, I'm still using reasonable caution and checking
to see my will is made out properly before drinking the stuff.

I bought a can, more or less on impulse. We'll see what happens. "Red
Bull Gives You Wings", my h***y red...ahem. But how could it possibly be
worse than Coke?

Happy New Year, all!
