Really? I thought it was longer ago, based on recollections of
[apparently not] contemporary events, where I worked, lived, etc.

Yes, and the bleachers didn't help prevent that ;-) . Which is why I
felt it necessary to do the Martin Yan thing. On the plus side, at the
time there was no possibility of "Bam!", or at least I had never
encountered such. Now, the real me, in a genuine kitchen situation, is
much more likely to taste a sauce or something, add a bit of salt, taste
it again, then launch into Dana Carvey's Church Lady Superiority Dance...
