The dragon was made in honour of the visiting Midrealm Royalty, and the griffin
was made in honour of the visiting Principality of Northshield Royalty (those
are the symbols for each set of royalty).

The eggs were actually Kinder Surprise Eggs covered in a coloured sugar glaze to
hide the wrapper (I ran out of time to do the gelatine filled "eggs in lent",
so I figured a toy filled choclate egg would just HAVE to do *grin*). The
structural support of the griffin was an empty paper towel tube cut on the
diagonal at the base, so that it sat at about 45 degrees from the table. I then
stuck 2 bamboo skewers in an X shape through the tube where the shoulders were
going to be. The pieces sticking out the top supported the wings, and the pieces
sticking out the bottom became the skeleton of the front legs, creating a stable
tripod effect. Then I built up the shoulders, etc with aluminum foil, and
covered the rest of the tube in foil too to keep it separate from the
gingerbread that I layered on top. The candied orange peel feathers were
attatched to the gingerbread covered body with small toothpick sections and were
sewn on the saran wrap covered wing skeleton with clean thread.
It was very stable once it was all assembled, the weight of the gingerbread
legs in the hinquarters kept it from moving much. The extra candied orange peel
got cut into long, thin pieces for the nest around the eggs.

The feast became quite eventful when their Magesties disected the dragon to
create various awards of the dragon's body part - much silliness ensued.
