The Cute Little Red Haired Girl and I ducked out for a while yesterday to
make our monthly rounds to the local used bookstores. While in one of my
favorites I ran across a copy of Speculum (he usually has two or three) from
October 1986. In it is an article by Constance Hieatt and Robin Jones
entitled _Two Anglo-Norman Culinary Collections Edited from British Library
Manuscripts Additional 32085 and Royal 12.C.xii_ The article includes both
a transcription of the originals as well as a translation plus extensive
explanatory notes and bibliography. These are purported by the authors to
be the earlist collections of English culinary recipes. Before anyone
starts foaming at the mouth over new sources, these are not, but some
interesting stuff nonetheless. Now, I wouldn't want to violate any
copyrights or anything, but Pucks do love to share most times, and I'm
thinking (ouch! it hurts!) that I could scan it in and send it privately to
anyone who might be interested in, oh say, disinterring the great kuskenole
debate or perhaps discussing the various merits of Hawthorn Blossom
Pottage... After all, if we're to discuss these manuscripts we ought to all
be working from the same sheet of music, ought we not?

"Rabbit's clever," said Pooh thoughtfully.
"Yes," said Piglet, "Rabbit's clever."
"And he has Brain."
"Yes," said Piglet, "Rabbit has Brain."
There was a long silence.
"I suppose," said Pooh, "that that's why he never understands anything."
