Greetings, all

Birka was busy, but fun. I got a quick chance to look at the A&S
stuff - sorry, no pix (left the camera on the kitchen table). There
were 2 Elizabethan style dresses, a blackwork chessboard in green &
gold, a beaded bodice, a stained glass panel and a couple more
needlework items. No food, or related stuff. I saw it before the Queen
swept through, so I don't yet know who or what won.

I am sorry that I didn't get to visit many other merchants, but
those people who stopped by were well fed. I brought cold roast pork,
chicken legs, 4 kinds of cheese, mustards, cameline sauce, pita bread,
rye rolls, cider sauce butter, currant biscuits, pecan rounds, almonds,
dried apricots, and cherry-cashew-chocolate gorp. And soda & water.
(Not quite Ratty's picnic basket, but close in spirit.)

I think I sort of know now how Lady Brighid felt when she found her
Lyre, though.
While milord Husband & I were minding our own business (and the shop),
a gentle whom we knew came over and announced that Kynar was wanted in
Queen's Court. This was a puzzler. What would SHE want with HIM ? I
tucked the cashbox up my sleeve, and wandered over to see what was
going on. (Our space was right around the corner from the Court area).
No sooner had I moved to where I could see him kneeling up there, than
MY name was called - the big one, not Bethra. I sort of wandered up in
a daze, head down, with the till clamped tight to my side. I forced my
way onto the kneeler, and in a ceremony I barely remember, we both
received our AoA's. I THINK I spoke coherently, but I don't really
remember saying much besides "Yes, Your Majesty" and "Thank you, Your
Majesty."
I know Kynar reached out and scritched the head of the court jester's
rat puppet; but I couldn't even tell you who else was up there, besides
the herald Kenrick, Kythe (the jester) and Isabella.
At least you weren't present when she handed out the Lyres, Brighid.
You got to be tongue-tied in front of a Laurel, not the Queen. But I
guess that'll happen too, one of these days, won't it? <G>.

"Lady" Christina Elisabeth Spicewell (called Bethra)
