How much would all of that bother you if you were at that feast? Would
you just get the "magic" that the theatre person tried to create? Or
would the non periodness of it destroy it? <...snip...> Should we
ignore the flair and let the food speak for itself? Would you rather
eat in a VFW Hut with their stuff on the walls or would you rather have
the scenery? If your sword is going to go through the "rocks" on the
fountain then would you rather not have the fountain? and finally what
could I do to make the dream even more real?

I would *definately* appreciate the effort that went into
decorating the hall. One does with what one's got. If it's not
'period', at least it's pretty. If people can't look past the
mundanity, that's too bad, and I feel sorry if they can't see the
magic.
Sometimes, the food can't speak for itself (if it could, it would
probably be screaming for help). A bit of scenery, even obviously made
of "improper" material, would go a long way in upping the ambiance of
feast. The last few events I've done have been pot-luck, and it felt
more like a church social, or PTA supper type of atmosphere. The VFW
Hut was functional, but not 'fun'. Banners on the wall helped, but to
do a full decoration would have been nice. The "feast" was held in the
same (one) room as everything else had been. If an area is set aside
exclusively for feast, then it should be easier to work with.
If your sword is going to go through the rocks, then what the heck
are you doing with it ? The fountain doesn't need to be real, it just
needs to be. Sit down & eat! Enjoy ! Remember, it's a game, a Dream;
not a matter of "Great Pompusness".
I have yet to cook for a feast (except the pot-lucks), indeed, to do
more than help out a little in the kitchen (too new), but when I do
(not if, you notice) it would be *nice* to hav a hall decorated to
matche either the food, the event theme or the season. It can only
increase the experience.
