Well, I'm afraid niether of those two resources has much to offer on this
specific question. But perhaps the information they offer on this issue
as a whole might be of some use.

The Rialto FAQ can be found in the NEWCOMERS section of the Florilegium
as:
SCA-Rialto-FAQ (51K) 6/ 2/00 SCA FAQ list from the Rialto (rec.org.sca).

Here is what I have otherwise. In the EDUCATION section:
apprentices-msg (15K) 6/ 9/99 Comments on medieval and SCA apprentices.

In the CHIVALRY section:
knighthood-msg (34K) 6/29/00 Knighthood in SCA and period.
squires-msg (27K) 9/28/98 Comments on SCA and period squires.
While not quite the same, there are some parallels between squirehood
and apprenticeship.

Now if there are some folks who would like to write me an article, or
who already have, on this subject, I'd love to consider adding it to
the Florilegium.

Hmmm. I've just started a file to be posted on the Florilegium with
article ideas that I would be interested in seeing (or have been
suggested by others). I will add this topic to that file.
