from Paul Johnson bio, titled _Elizabeth I_ -- reference in the text to

    "[after coronation] ... Elizabeth, now in violet velvet, sat down to a 
banquet in Westminster Hall, which lasted from 3pm to 1am the next 
morning.  Sir Edward Dymoke, her champion, rode in mounted and in full 
armour, to issue the traditional challenge."
