Actually, it bears a striking resemblance to the silver fulminate
'box bombs' my husband and his buddy Curt used to make. They had
this formulary from the late 1800s that had the recipes for a
number of different fireworks. Apparently, a silver dime is the
perfect amount of silver for making the fulminate with for one
bomb, and when combined with sparklers and farming chemicals make
for neat colors and sparks ;-)
