As it happens,I found the reference the mag used by name. It is "The Magia
Naturalis" by Giambattista della Ports, Italy 1589. Actually the mag
referenced it as describing the process for making sorbet, sorbetti con
crema, granita, and gelato. However, they also mention an Indian poem going
back to the 4th century, and an Arab treatise from the 13th century. If I can
get the names of those two pieces, I'll post them on the list.
