I am not sure about red raspberries but black raspberries most certainly are.
Any text mentioned 'brambles' is talking about a form of black raspberry.
They were not cultivated but were widely distributed as wild bushes. In Wales
today, blackberries are seldom, if ever cultivated because brambles are  in
more p[laces than not. They are a common weed there and are harvested by many
to this day.
