My experience has been that if you use the special little cylindrical ice
mold, you get smooth shaved ice. If you use ice cubes or chips from a bag
o'ice grabbed on the way to the event, you get a grittier, more
"snow-cone"-y product. Fun with topology, what?

Shaved Ice makes our local emigres from Western Seas very happy. They'd be
happier still if I could produce a credible Thai Ice Tea to pour over it.
Any suggestions?

The hand cranked shave ice gadget I got from the local Chinese supermarket
was very cheap and not difficult to crank. I've been awfully popular this
hot Caid summer, and keeping my tendancy to heat exhaustion under control to
boot. I give them away free, with an [urged] optional donation to the
kingdom newsletter fund.

At the moment, I'm not happy with the syrups imported from Eastern Europe.
The strawberry syrup from Poland was not fruity but cooked-sugar flavored,
and the rose hip syrup from I-forget-where was downright stale and likewise
presented no apparent relationship with the alleged fruit. The Russian sour
cherry was delightful however.
