Chiquart is written in 15th century FRENCH, while the OED is a
dictionary for the ENGLISH language. Look up a Japanese word in a 33
volume German dictionary, of course it will be "no help". -- Am I
missing something?

As far as I can see, there are other dictionaries and glossaries to look
up FRENCH culinary words and measurement terms, one of them Terence
Scully's & Maurice Casanova's copious glossary to the French edition of
Chiquart in Vallesia 40 (1985) 101-231. On _boce_, pl. _boces_, see p.
209, right column.
