Not that there aren't plenty of Americans
who understand that little piece of slang as well...
back when Pres. Clinton was being yelled at for
fooling around, there were all *kinds* of rude
"Free Willy" jokes going around -- and for a lot
of folks, his "Slick Willy" nickname was every bit
as intentionally rude as it sounds.

To go across the Atlantic in the other
direction, and add in the obligatory food reference,
one of the most unintentionally hilarious names
for a British dessert (at least to American ears)
is "spotted dick." A friend of mine was an exchange
student (U. of East Anglia), and she said that
all her British friends were totally mystified
when all the American students burst into laughter
after finding that item listed on a cafeteria menu...
