lets talk about a "cheap" meal.

In recent history... I saw some numbers of the per plate co$t of fea$t$.
Some in the Three Dollars [US] range. Would the group like to suggest a menu
that can be suggested to an *Incipient Canton* to help raise it's funds ?
The new Canton may not be blessed with great cooks, or able to
"hire/capture" one into their isolated area. This would be to help them hit
the ground running, and pull off a good first feast. Remember "incipient"
needs to make some, but not a-lot of $$. They got the site for almost free
[ a donation], a cafeteria/kitchen in a school. Season of this event is late
summer/ early fall.
I guess we should set some ground rules..... first of feast ticket price @
$4.50 [ that will get a draw around here] and meal cost not to exceed $3.50
[ about a one dollar profit]. Three removes, each a country theme, your
choice. No particular period or time. Service for 100, with paying guest 90,
maybe 95. Equipment on loan from the supporting "Barony of Good Graces", but
that maybe all the Barony does.
The preamble to this suggested feast should include "Lessons Learned" or at
least links to the into good SCA sources { #1 Floury-thingy}. Like ... make
friends with the local meat monger. Get an employee of a grocery store to
*join* the SCA. Send a "RFQ" [ Request for Quote] to several stores, offer
them the whole package & a "Thank you, mention" on the menu.
Foods: meat, fish, fowl, veggies, fruits, breads, enough that a SCAdian
would be happy. Maybe a soup [broth] that is a by-product of the
'Meat-fish-fowl",[ water is cheap].

I'm willing to collect this together, and report back in about a month.
Remember that tight cost control is required. My step-Mom has agreed to do
the RFQ, provided it's not too strange. She does not speak .."SCA-Cook".
Her store/deli is a bit isolated, not unlike "The Canton" [ really... on
Eastern Shore, Virginia]. There is a major grocery stocking centre [ she
uses] about a hour up the road. Between these two places, I will be able to
get some real world pricing.
