AND one can read one's favourite books over and over again!

One of the reasons I knew I was getting better from the CFS is that I was
half way through a book I was reading (a Terry Pratchett, I think), which I
had read at least 5 times before, and I suddenly remembered how it all
ended!
I knew I was really getting better when my ankles stopped aching from
Lactate buildup every evening.

Not being able to remember things makes it hell for historical research. I
end up telling my husband everything of interest I find in books, then using
him as an external memory device when I want to find it again. The odd thing
is that my computer brain had not ceased to function, and I could/can still
analyse, program and test to my heart's content, as long as I write things
down in my notebook.

I haven't managed a huge cooking job by myself since I got sick, but have
helped out. CFS also means you don't get bored chopping vegetables for half
the day (I didn't have a huge amount of pain in my hands, though). Have done
weekend-for-6 planning/cooking, lunch for 30, or a batch of 400 biscuits -
with pre-cookery and photocopying - I make ingredient and utensil lists, and
check them thrice. I'm hoping to start getting more involved with cookery
planning, but it's hard to break into it again, especially when you're with
groups/people who haven't known you in your 'heyday', and assume you're new
at this sort of thing.

Glenda.
