No, no, no.  He doesn't have to be a deer to rut.  The word covers all
mammalian sexual activity.

Rutting can also be the establishment of a regular boring routine.
Something to be desired in dieting and exercise.

However, I would point out that "ruting" does not seem to appear in my
dictionary (it might be in the OED, but that's not readily available).  In
the absence of a definable word, I can only believe that Olwen has been
taking on the traits of Humpty Dumpty, where "a word means only what I wish
it to mean, that and nothing more."
