[Sca-cooks] Meat and not potatoes feast

I shan't give you precise menu ideas, but rather an idea of what a
fighter's appetite is likely to be like. ;-) Keep in mind this is my
personal preference and observation of what I've seen my fellow combatants
devouring.

I don't know about Selene or Gunther, but when I've been fighting, I want
protein, preferably in animal form, lots of beverage, preferably not too
sweet (I have had sekanjabin that was just *vile*), and occasionally
battered and fried things. [Mmmm, salty fries!]

Very very occasionally I have a craving for cooked green things. I almost
never want legumes. Bread with goo (butter, cheese, hummus, baba ganouj,
whatever) IIRC, falafel went over real well, even though they are in fact
legumes. Probably because they're spicy and fried. Sweet crunchy things
are good, like sugared almonds. Mushy things, unless they are spicy, or
are in the "goo on bread" category, are less interesting than large hunks
of protein. ;-) Juicy fruits are good, as are tart apples. Fruits in tart
crust are especially good.

So, to summarize: protein, protein, protein, salt, fat, some carbs, sugar,
water. ;-) Simple and substantial is better than fancy delicate stuff, but
don't skimp on the flavorful just because half of your audience will be so
tired they won't taste much.

Take your usual amount of protein per person, and serve at least half
again that much. Fish is probably not a good idea in this instance.

Hmmm. What I would want: meat with sauce or gravy, armored turnips (I
*always* want armored turnips), bread with stuff to smear on it, some
variety of pies with cheese and/or meat and possibly vegetables of some
sort, a beverage in the not-too-sweet-lemonade category (slightly tart and
refreshing), juicy fruit tarts. If pasta, make it substantial--thick,
chewy noodles. Sugared almonds for nibbles after the meal.
