Some of the comments in this file in the FOOD-BOOKS section of the
Florilegium might be of use in figuring out which edition/translation
is the best for you. Rather than giving you just one person's views
or what little I could do in a single message, I think looking though
this file might be of more use:

If you could be guaranteed to be one of the upper level citizens it might
be pretty good, but if you were randomly swapped out with some random
person in Rome, your chances of being a poor citizen, non-citizen or
slave are much, much better. :-(
