in the uk reworked ivory is frowned upon as it doesnot have the colour of 'old' ivory and it is hard to prove that it is not new ivory. In reworking it could invalidate the provinance that makes it legal. They tend to clamp down very heavily on these shores...........better to work in bone and give the ivory to a museum. vara
