Brief side note, if it's not a life threatening allergy, you might try
narrowing the actual culprit down. I would hate to give up horseradish
unless it was absolutely necessary and I have an odd allergy myself to the
preservative that American shredded coconut has in it. I can eat the real
thing, fresh from the shell, without a problem and I can eat crackseed made
from Japanese processed coconut.

Like I said, if it's not life threatening and if she likes horseradish. I
can pass on Pina Coladas and German chocolate cake, but big chunks of the
real thing is too good to pass up (which is how I discovered the difference
in the first place - decided it was worth it and then didn't get sick.
Thought "Yeah! I'm cured!" and ate the to-be MiL's signature choc chip
cookies with coconut. Shudder. Not cured. Also not a way to ingratiate
oneself with new in laws. But ever since then she's very careful to point
out what items have coconut to me.).
