That coating that so easily comes off of non-stick
pans is not good to eat, either.  If you see it coming
off in your food, it's time to retire the pan.
Also, a side note...if you have pet birds (as I do)
non-stick pans are BAD.  Birds are very sensitive to
everything anyway, but non-stick pans emit fumes that
are noxious to birds on a regular basis.
