Yes, it's true, A-Rod is owned, in part, by George W. Bush. Be that as it may, I have other reasons to disapprove of him, largely because while I generally approve of capitalism, I think it really, really bad for the sport (in this case baseball, but really any professional team sport) to have any player handed $237 million (I forget if it's per year, or over a several-year contract, but it very nearly doesn't matter, unless the contract is about a hundred years' duration).

Oh yes, a very commercial fellow, Mr. R. Somewhat before he signed on
with the Bushwhackers, there had been talks with the Mets in which his
agent demanded a) a luxury suite (I guess this is an apartment) to be
built or otherwise provided at Shea Stadium, a rather small stadium
completed in 1964, b) a similar luxury suite for his family, also at
Shea, c) a private jet for A-Rod, d) and yes, you guessed it, a private
jet for his family's use, and e) a minimum starting bid of $200 million.

Later he was to say that he would have loved to play in New York, and he
could never understand why the Mets didn't bid for him more
aggressively, especially since he would have been fully prepared to
decrease the monetary and other demands for a chance to play in New
York. Part of me wants to say it's a pity he didn't make this clear to
his agent, but in retrospect, I'm pretty happy with the way things
turned out.
