I have not heard either of them recount the kind of experience that
would indicate they feel that they have sinned in any way. I have not
been a Christian all my life, and have found the congregation I am a
member of does not discuss the 'sin of the world' without relating it
very specifically back to things that anyone in the congregation might
have done.

Specifically, the remarks they were making were made on the 700
Club.

' "God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to
give us probably what we deserve," said Falwell, appearing yesterday on
the Christian Broadcasting Network's "700 Club," hosted by Robertson.'

While nominally an evangelizing effort, much of the show is geared
toward presenting Robertson's worldview for his followers. Would any of
them be:
"... pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and
the lesbians who areactively trying to make that an alternative
lifestyle, the ACLU, People
for the American Way --"?

If they are not, how does ranting about people who may be
characterized that way help Robertson's or Falwell's followers, except to
give them a target for their fear and anger? It completely (and neatly)
avoids a discussion of how a loving and omnipotent God can allow such
evil to happen. The struggle to arrive at this answer, and the answer to
this question would provide a more thoughtful, productive and peaceful
exercise.

Christians must discern between the truth and the twisting of truth.
What I have learned has led me to decide these men promote a shallow
Christianity that sidesteps the difficult questions that have to be
answered by any religion.
