    I will say that Pieter Brughal, who painted the *Wedding Feast*
(obligatory food content) shows peasants with "Monmouth"-style caps with
one side folded up and pinned, and a spoon stuck through  the fold.

   It was a visual reference to a Flemish proverb about foolish folk ...
(sigh!).
