Precisely. They (as well as snickers bars and other similar ones) are dipped
in the same sort of batter that fish is done and then deep fried til golden.
It is very popular in Scotland apparently. Watching a piece on this on the
now defunct Travelers show on the Discovery channel, it looked as though they
fried them in the same vat as the fish & chips. The host said they weren't
bad...but you have to wonder.  ::shudder::

As to fried pies, think of them as similar to Hostess Fruit Pies. Only
BETTER! Much, much better.
