It is a translation, with notes, of an early 15th century
French/Savoyard aristocratic cookery manual in the form of a combined
"my master has often nagged me to write this stuff down" text and a
feast proposal: subject to the Count's approval, this is what I will
do for the wedding feast for his son. Yes, feast bids are period.
It's fascinating in that the proposed feast is designed to last
through both meat and fish days, so there are actually dishes
represented in both their fish and meat-day forms.

There are no modern adaptations of the recipes, as I recall. You
might look at a different translation which is online at
daviddfriedman.com , done by Betty Cook, a.k.a. Elizabeth
d'Endermonde of this list, for an idea of what to expect.

No, I'm not trying to talk anyone out of buying the Scully text; I
happen to like it a lot.
