He's a Shakespeare scholar at, I think, Vassar. He had decided, using
whatever means these people use, that a certain anonymous sonnet had
been written by Shakespeare, got a whole lot of other Shakespeare
scholars to agree with this judgement, then changed his mind and
recanted. The quote was from one of his statements on the matter,
quoted in the New York Times a few months ago. However, I thought it
was the words themselves, rather than who said them or the
circumstances, that had the greatest impact.
