Yes. And I think (with no hard evidence) their close relative "cream
peas" (of which i now have a sack) may have been the white peas that
show up in some recipe, although i realize that the word "white" can
sort of mean "clean". However, pulses in this family are very very
ancient in the Old World (Asia) and seem to have been transported to
Europe...
