In the West, if you are active in your local group, you usually get
an AoA in 2 years, unless everyone assumes you already have one and
neglects to write a letter of recommendation - there have even been
some folks elevated to Peerages without receiving an AoA.

As for elevation to the Peerages, vigils are optional here. Some
folks want them, some don't. Some only invite special people, some
are open to the populace. Some hold them at Crown events, some have
private parties.

There are some people who actually don't want to know that they're
going to be elevated and want it to be a surprise.

We recently had a stealth Pelicanning - the recipient had no idea
(and i hear those in the know had a hard time keeping it quiet, but
they did). He was called into Court and knelt before the Crowns,
thinking he was going to get some sort of thanks. THEN the Court
Herald called up the Pelicans! You should have seen the look on his
face!
