Oak Moss
Where it occurs: From the lichen, Evernia pruastri, which grows pimarily on
oak trees. It is collected all Central and Southern Eurpoe, particularly in
Yugoslavia and France but also in Morocco.
Isolation: The resinoid and concrete are obtained by extraction of the moss
and the absolute by extracting the resinoid..
Yield: 2-4% in the form of the resinoid or extract and about half of this as
absolute.
Odor: Generally earthy, mossy, spicy, woody odor with slight phenolic and
leather-like notes.
Uses: Is mostly used as a fixative.
