La Varenne is French, 1680.  I wish I could read Italian.  There's a lot of
cool stuff out there in Italian.

I'll see what I can do.  There's at least one English translation of La
Varenne out there, but it's of an earlier edition, and I don't know if that
edition has the praline recipes.
