[Sca-cooks] gas vs. electric ovens and ranges

One of my strongest childhood memory-images is of a pristine "Lane"
recliner sitting in the branches of a tree next to my mom's house. The area
had flooded (did I mention I'm from Oregon?) and the pilot light on her
neighbor's gas thingie had gone out. The house exploded. Folks from around
the area were taking his and her undies out of their trees for months
following (his white t-shirts were especially eye-catching). I hasten to say
that no one died.
My grandmother had a gas stove, my babysitters electric ones. I learned
early on that I could taste the difference between things cooked on a gas
stove and things cooked on electric... there is a subtle tang to foods
cooked via gas. No big deal if you're used to it, but noticable if you're
not (much like the difference between using stainless steel eating utensils
and silverware).
If you are living in an area subject to poor weather hazards, I'd opt for
safety and go with electric (or, using another argument - gas in not a
renewable resource, but electricity is/can be generated by earth-friendly
methods).

I think whichever stove and oven you end up with, you'll find that you
will swiftly adapt to its unique "feel".
