Ummm yeah... I have a degenerative hearing condition caused by Meniere's
Disease...

I haven't learnt to sign as I spend most of my time dealing with the hearing
world - I can lip read a bit (need to work on acquiring more words - Avid
Babylon 5 & Startrek watching have given me a *very* strange lip reading
vocabulary :-p); I have quite a few days when the hearing is active enough
to hear within a foot radius (means I can use the telephone) and I'm
becoming rather good at reading body language. 4 years ago when I began to
loose the hearing in my right ear (Left has been clinically deaf for about
10 years now) I was told by the Specialist that hearing aids would do me no
good as I would be "fully deaf within a year" - I frequently blow
raspberries in their general direction for having no faith in my sheer
bloody mindedness :-p

Mostly I'm known as being "vague" so a lot of the Missed conversation things
are passed off by others as me being distracted... and so long as the Head
cook has communicated with me before hand I'm okay at following the menu
plan etc with any additional instructions <see food topic!>

:-p

Mari
(who believes that it's only a disability if *I* allow it to be)
