[Sca-cooks] OT- Not so woe is me!

Great news:

Andrew went back to the Dentist at the hospital yesterday, and he's off the
pulverised diet. He can now eat anything that he can break up and fit into
his mouth. He's now up for root-canal treatment, and his teeth still are a
bit wobbly, so he has to take care of them for a few more months. I'll get a
proper mouthguard fitted between now and then, just in case.

What did I end up making him? Well I had some of my 'Mum's own recipe'
pumpkin soup (pumpkin, chicken, onions, garlic, herbs) left over from last
time I made a batch, which he loves, a vegetable and 'soup mix' soup
(turnips, carrots, beans, split peas, barley, onion). I also did a few meals
with meat and three-veg (for meat, read meat put through the blender with
gravy as a carrier - he said he'd had chicken with gravy many times before,
but never had gravy with chicken!), rice/mashed taties, mashes carrots and
partially mashed peas. Porridge or crushed weet-bix for breakfast, jelly
and/or ice-cream for desserts (tried custard, but it's not his thing), lots
of fruit yoghurt, and stewed apples as well, which I'll continue to make - I
think full-on apple's just a bit off his to-eat list until his teeth really
bed down.

He was able to help me with the peeling and chopping, so that saved me a bit
of pain.

I can't believe how well he's healed! He had a huge amount of abrasions on
his face, and the scabs have all fallen off in the past day or so, leaving
only one small scar. Little dear will probably fully heal (except the teeth)
before my bones even start healing (they say it's 10 days), but it will be
longer if the bone's moved out of place since last week - an X-Ray tomorrow
will check this, and we'll see if I need that operation. When I went to the
elbow specialist, he said that I have to use my elbow, rather than keep it
still, and that any pain I feel will not make the injury worse. Apparently
if you don't use it,. you may lose the use of the joint - ouch! I've found
that I can do a lot of things using my left hand and body as to hold things,
but I still can't get the lids of jars. It's bearable in the kitchen now,
but I can't drive until the bone is completely healed, so I think that's
going to end up being the worst thing.

I've just got to prevent myself from wrapping both kids in cotton wool, and
I'll be right. Andrew's back at school today - catching up on missed lessons
should keep him out of mischief for a while around here.

Glenda.
