Just wanted to report on what I gave my cooking crew (besides DEEP thanks). After thinking about it, and the fact that we have spicing mixtures as the March Cooking Guild topic, I decided to give everybody a cookbook I had recently found, on French and Italian cooking. Got a good deal on the cost. I liked the idea of the masseur, but we were not all staying around site, and I didn't know who to get in this area.

And everybody was thrilled with the cookbooks! Most are fairly new cooks, with no period cookbooks at all. Yes, it was a bit more costly than just putting together bottles of spice, but the thanks were well worthwhile. I enjoy keeping the new cooks enthusiastic. Now, when we get to the Guild meeting about spices, they will know how to use them.

I announced at our Baronial Business Meeting that the February topic, being the night before Lent begins, is about Lenten dietary observances in period, and we are making almond milk. I might have a dish made with almond milk ready for people to taste, in addition to recipes for them to take home.

PS: We served nearly on time, allowing for Royal slippage. The Baroness snarked a bit about the service, but they tried to tell me to shorten the time between courses from half-hour to fifteen minutes to make up for running late, which was not time enough to get things plated - and THEN put a fighting demo in the middle course, against the autocrat's instructions, which ended up extending the time for that course to almost forty minutes. The better news was that we were under budget even before I returned the unused items. Good show!
