There are all sorts of interesting genetic quirks to do with taste.  I was just talking on the weekend to someone about a particular substance (sadly neither of us could remember what it was called) which when given to people of Indian extraction was completely tasteless, but when given to Europeans had a very strong bitter taste.

Kind of the like the fact that asparagras makes your pee smell funny, but some people genetically cannot smell it.
