[Sca-cooks] ...thoughts on period-style food?

I can say that I have found mention of it back to Elizabeth I. I am basing
this on Food and Feast in Tudot England. There were very elaborate salt
cellers placed on the head table for the feast and anyone not sitting at the
head table was below the salt. I believe this only pertained to large feasts
with important guests.
I am uncertain how much further back it goes.
