Since some of the services monks had to sing came during evening
(Vespers), early morning (Prime), and somewhere in between (the
one I can't remember the name of), they got more sleep in winter
than they did in the summer.
(And I'll take corrections on the hours; I just went through them last
week, and damned if my memory's not a sieve today.)
