Thanks everyone, but what I need for a glossary entry is something more
like this:

skirret, Scirret, Sium Sisarum - Skirret is a root vegetable of Chinese
origin, first cultivated in England circa 1548.

Culpepper's Herbal --"Sisari, secacul. Of Scirrets. - They are hot
and moist, of good nourishment, something windy, as all roots; by reason of
which they... stir up appetite..."

In other words
-a short definition,
-botanical name if it's an herb,
-alternate spellynges,
-a dated citation, preferably with the word used in context.
