Ok, wait. Yes, the body needs a balance of fats to function properly, but
primarily it needs UNsaturated fats, those that are not solid at room
temperature, which all animal fats are. And as are hydrogenated vegetable
oils, filling in the open double bond with a hydrogen molecule instead of
allowing it to remain open and possibly hook up with an oxygen molecule,
which makes rancidity occur, producing nasty free radicals, etc. Now, if
you give your body lots of lovely unsaturated fats, you can then get away
with some saturated ones, because your body will have taken what it needs
from the good fats, and basically ignore the bad ones. Unless you get too
much of the bad ones, and then you get deposits forming on the insides of
your blood vessels, gastro-intestinal tract, etc. So yes, the 'healthier'
margarine is not so healthy, but the saturated fats from animals (and
coconuts and palms) are not the best alternative.

nearly so bad as they've been telling us. The human body requires a balance
of fats to run properly. It is, if anything, the imbalance of fats that
might be causing problems, along with the refined carbs and hydrogenated
oils we've been wolfing down because they're "low fat".
