[Sca-cooks] Feast Alternatives

What that translates out to is that anything over that number comes out
of the feastcrat's pocket. If they don't sell as many feast seats as
anticipated, the feastcrat (or group) takes a bath. If they do sell that
many, kingdom keeps the proceeds. Ahem . . . Given that if they DO sell out,
the group receives no benefit whatsoever and if they DON'T, they lose their
shirts, small wonder they're not willing to run the risk . . .
Most just show up on site looking to see if feast is still available.
I've tried for years to convince people to make reservations, but since
there's no cabin space, there's very little incentive to pre-reg. At Wewa,
where there was limited cabin space available, people reserved in greater
numbers. When they reserved cabin space, the made their feast reservations
as well. I noticed a steep decline in pre-registration across the board when
we started using LaNoChe. One of the drawbacks, I suppose, of a site that
can (and regularly does) handle 5 times our numbers.
If they're going to make the group bear the risk, they should be allowed
to keep the profits. The way it was when I was still doing kingdom feasts,
the kingdom kept all the proceeds and the host group got nothing from feast
fees. Given that I was generally putting out well over $1,000 of my money
for each feast, I thought that bit big time. My feasts always sold out, but
still, it was my money swingin' in the wind out there . . . I've done 350 in
that hall, and it was cozy but not crowded.
Kingdom seriously needs to update the 'Crats manual - their front money
is woefully inadequate, and the number restrictions were put in place back
when 700 on site was a big event . . . I think it was written in '94 or so,
and hasn't been updated since.
