Ooh! When I was four I...

had one of those toy kitchen sets- tried to cook scrambled eggs very early
one morning. It didn't work so I tried to pour them down the 'drain' in the
sink. There was egg remnants there for years. It was a cool set though-
sheet metal, with pictures of food printed inside the door of teh frig and
such. Outside was avocado green, natch (hey! it was like, 1968!)

and one morning, also when I was about four, I decided I wanted some
chocolate pudding. Mom had one of those pudding shakers- the big tumbler
with the top- you put the milk and Jello instant pudding in, and shake for
like 10 minutes. Only I didn't get the lid on very well, it flew off an d
pudding glop went everywhere. Mom was not happy.

My brother Johann was born when I was about 5. Grandma came to stay with us
for awhile, and I have a very clear memory to telling her "Morris [the cat,
of course] sometimes gets on the table and licks the butter. Then we have
to throw it away." Grandma was scandalized, and shortly after, Morris was
banished from the kitchen. Wasn't so bad, really- I figured the Kitchen
Brownie would be happier that way.

I liked having Grandma to visit. She liked to go grocery shopping, and she
got cool things like watermelon, and ice cream, and soda, and big hurkin'
roasts. Almost made up for the fact that there was likely a new baby in the
house. :-/

Mom made a really wretched casserole once with cheap tuna, peanut butter,
cornchips, and canned mushrooms. Even Dad wouldn't eat it.

I'll think of more, I'm sure. and there was this time, in band camp... ;-)
