Actually, sharp cheddar goes uncommonly well with sweets.  I got the idea
from the Herriot books, who says it was a common Yorkshire thing to eat cake
and sharp cheese together.  And I guess apple pie and cheddar cheese is a
pretty common Midwestern thing.

I've never had grits, though, so I don't know how that would work.
