It failed to pass FDA testing, for exactly that reason. Much like Olestra
(the "non-fat" frying medium), it is unprocessable by the human digestive
system. This leads to (a) wasting in the feces with subsequent diarrhea and
(b) wasting in the urine with subsequent dehydration. The stuff cannot be
eaten in any significant quantity without making yourself sick - and the FDA
(probably rightly) determined that people would NOT voluntarily limit their
consumption of the stuff.
