Yeah, my recollections are the same.  I lived in the South Pacific for a
year, and had all of the tropical fruits fresh and ripened on the tree.  It
was kind of like the difference between vine-riped tomatoes and those pale,
plastic-like things we get in the winter that they call "tomatoes".
