I heard if you wrapped your squash vines with sections of hose, it will
keep the vine borers out. I always did it, and never had a problem. Same
with cutworms on tomatoes. We always wrapped the young plants with strips
of newspaper. Grandma had an answer for every problem. Even the darned
armadillo who delicately dug tiny holes to retrieve each pea seed. (We used
moth balls).
