Hi,
I haven't posted much in quite a while, but I had to reply to this one.
I grew up in Harrison Arkansas, just down the road from Dogpatch.(yes
there really is a town called dogpatch arkansas) Al Capp was from
harrison, and there was a small amusement park there called Dogpatch
USA. I spent every summer from the time I was 14 til I was 21 working
there, usually food service. So your reference to Pappy made me laugh.
So even tho I'm not really old enough to remember the al capp comic
strip, I know all of the characters, because several of them were
played by my frieds at the park. LOL. The Shmoo was the one no one
wanted to play. 8 feet tall costume that had a fan in it, but was nasty
hot in those humid summers in Northern Arkansas. Oh well, this is kind
of off topic, so I'll quit rambling now.

I can remember eating it as a child, as well...we used to call it
"Pappy
Yokum" for the comic strip character from "L'il Abner"...yes, I
know...I'm
showing my age again!! But it WAS a great strip!!

I have also used tapioca as a thickener for fruit cobblers...works very
well.
