Well, it seems to have happened- the raccoons seem to
have found the chickens. I went out about 3-4 AM
because I heard a disturbance, and there was a large
raccon, staring at me, daring me to argue with him. I
got one of R & M's walking sticks, and offered to
discuss the matter in detail, and he left. Checked on
the chickens- two were missing, wouldn't come when I
called. Checked again this AM, and only one was
missing. All the Rhode Island Reds were fine (that
includes Houdini, for all you Houdini fans out there
;-) but one of the black and greys is still missing.

Muiredach, did that book you sent me include recipes
for 'Coon? If so, I'll get it from where I put it up.
What are they called in French?

Think I'd better get the shotgun out.....
